History of the W213

The W213 E-Class launched in 2016 as the tenth generation, introducing significant technological advancements to the executive sedan segment.

The W213 replaced the W212 generation and was developed under the direction of Gorden Wagener's design philosophy. It introduced the MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform, which became the foundation for several Mercedes-Benz models and emphasized efficiency and performance optimization.

A comprehensive range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines launched alongside plug-in hybrid variants from 2016. The introduction of MBUX infotainment, adaptive suspension, and advanced driver assistance systems positioned the W213 as the technology leader in its class.

The 2020 facelift introduced refreshed styling, enhanced infotainment, and updated powertrains including 48V mild hybrid technology. Production continued through 2024, with the W213 achieving over 2.8 million units sold globally before the successor W215 generation arrived.
